Bedtime Routine Checklist

Everybody has different schedules and circumstances that alter how they prepare for bed. We scoured the internet to find some of the best steps to add to your nightly checklist to help you get the best sleep possible.

Set an Alarm

Setting an alarm to help you stick to a designated bedtime may sound like a strange idea, but teaching your body to get in a rhythm at the same time every night can greatly improve the quality of your sleep.

Prep for Tomorrow

Clear your mind from stress about the day to come by preparing what you need to be successful tomorrow. This can be as simple as preparing lunches for tomorrow or starting a load of laundry. Try to enter your bedroom with nothing on your mind except deep and restorative sleep.

Dock Your Phone

Phones are windows into the world that cause most of us enough distractions during the day. Plug your phone in far enough away that you won’t be tempted to browse or message. Besides distractions, phones emit blue light that mimics the sun in telling your brain that it needs to be awake.

Don’t Wait to Get Tired

Waiting to get tired in your bed can be very frustrating and even prolong your journey to sleep. If you can’t fall asleep, do yourself a favor and don’t wait to get tired. Get up and try meditating, breathing exercises, or reading to help ease your mind and prepare for sleep. Ten minutes spent engaging in a relaxing activity can help you prepare your mind for sleep.

Practice

Don’t get discouraged if you stray from this list and fall short on occasion. Perfecting a nightly routine that’s right for you will take time and practice to execute correctly.
